Cloud Computing Environments

Cloud computing environments:
Application development
Infrastructure and system development
Computing platforms and technologies

1. Application development:

Applications that leverage cloud computing benefit from its capability to dynamically scale on demand.

For example Web applications.

With the diffusion of Web 2.0 technologies, the Web has become a platform for developing rich and complex applications, including enterprise applications that leverage the Internet as the preferred channel for service delivery and user interaction.

For example, scientific applications can require huge computing capacity to perform large-scale experiments once in a while, so it is not feasible to buy the infrastructure supporting them. In this case, cloud computing can be the solution.

Cloud computing provides a solution for on-demand and dynamic scaling across the entire stack of computing. This is achieved by

(a) providing methods for renting compute power, storage, and networking;

(b) offering runtime environments designed for scalability and dynamic sizing; and

(c) providing application services that mimic the behavior of desktop applications but that are completely hosted and managed on the provider side.

2. Infrastructure and system development:

Infrastructure-as-a-Service solutions provide the capabilities to add and remove resources.
Platform-as-a-Service solutions control the provisioning process and the lease of resources. These can be either completely transparent to developers or subject to fine control.
Cloud computing is often summarized with the acronym XaaS—Everything-as-a-Service—that clearly underlines the central role of service orientation.
Virtualization technology is a core feature of the infrastructure used by cloud providers. Virtualization is the creation of a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, such as a server, a desktop, a storage device, an operating system or network resources.

3. Computing platforms and technologies:
Amazon web services (AWS): Amazon Web Services is a cloud computing platform that provides customers with a wide array of cloud services.
Google AppEngine: It is a Platform as a Service and cloud computing platform for developing and hosting web applications in Google-managed data centers.
Microsoft Azure: It is Microsoft's public cloud computing platform. It provides a range of cloud services, including those for compute, analytics, storage and networking.
Hadoop: Hadoop is a Java-based framework used to manipulate data in the cloud or on premises. Hadoop can be installed on cloud servers to manage Big data whereas cloud alone cannot manage data without Hadoop in It.
Salesforce.com: It is a cloud computing service as a software (SaaS) company that specializes in customer relationship management (CRM). Salesforce's services allow businesses to use cloud technology to better connect with customers, partners and potential customers.
Manjrasoft Aneka: It is focused on the creation of innovative software technologies for simplifying the development and deployment of applications on private or public Clouds.
